From Vision to Investment: Preparing Bankable Nature‑based Projects

From Vision to Investment: Preparing Bankable Nature‑based Projects

04.09.2025.

Building on the project activities related to Work Package 3 of the ActGREEN project on sensemaking, on 9 July we organised a webinar on the topic of financial sustainability and project stakeholders.

Following the ActGREEN webinar, through the NZC consortium and colleagues interested in our project, we have been included in various forms of training important for the implementation of projects aimed at reducing the carbon footprint and applying nature‑based solutions.

One such event was held on 23 July, organised by ICLEI, under the title: Innovation Lab (Round III) “From Vision to Investment: Preparing Bankable Nature‑based Projects”.

Just like our webinar, colleagues from ICLEI hosted excellent speakers — representatives of cities implementing projects in the fields of sustainable development, climate change mitigation and nature‑based solutions.

The cities presented were:

Gdańsk / Poland (Greening and renaturation - from the main railway station to the post‑shipyard areas) presented a project of returning parts of the city to nature and greening, with the main activity being the removal of concrete and asphalt surfaces.

Ruhr Region / Germany (Blue‑green climate streets) promotes itself through a strategic document that aims to make the Ruhr Region the greenest industrial region in the world.

Valencia / Spain (Valencia NBS Demonstration Pilot) presented the application of nature‑based solutions in a part of the city called San Marcello, also through methods of renaturing using NbS.

Paris / France (Renaturing the banks of the River Seine) presented a project of returning the riverbanks to the citizens.

All of the above examples of NbS application were commented on by institutions that assist in securing financial support and that can finance such projects — Bankers Without Bordersthe European Investment Bank, and colleagues from the NZC consortium responsible for innovative financing such as Climate‑KIC and ICLEI.
